Abstract
The "conucos" and Cuban rural farms have a particular system to manage the production of their own seeds, using the traditional varieties of the different crops. The seeds demand in a family depends on many factors, but the final decision is related with the use and the destination of the production in those crops. For this reason, the peasants conserve those varieties that offer them the wanted attributes, or rather a diversity in certain attributes that "fills" the necessities of their family economy, contributing this way to the in situ conservation of them...
Los “conucos” y las fincas rurales cubanas tienen un sistema particular para manejar la producción de sus propias semillas, utilizando las variedades tradicionales de los diferentes cultivos. La demanda de semilla en una familia depende de muchos factores, pero la decisión final está relacionada con el uso y el destino de la producción en esos cultivos. Por esta razón, los campesinos conservan aquellas variedades que les brindan los atributos deseados, o más bien una diversidad en determinados atributos que “llenan” las necesidades de su economía familiar, contribuyendo de esta manera a la conservación in situ de los mismos...
