Abstract
This study was undertaken to determine how IDRC-funded training programs have contributed to the careers of awardees in international development. The Centre Training and Awards Program (CTAP) is the focal point of training within IDRC. Interns divide their time between individual research studies and being trained in the techniques of research management through hands-on work experiences. Main findings of the study and surveys are summarized, as well as the overall impact of awards. Some survey recipients commented on a sense of isolation, conducting their internship in “a vacuum relative to other awardees.” However, it should be noted that all program aspects were rated highly.
