Abstract

The production in rural properties in Cuba is conditioned by numerous factors of alimentary, social and economic order, what is evidenced in the destination that the peasants give to the production, in dependence of the species he is dealing with. The present work was directed to tipifyr the present situation in four target crops, which are of importance for the family (common bean, lima bean, maize and Capsicum spp.), in 36 rural properties of two areas of the country. The priority for the production of each one of these target crops, is the self-consumption of the family, for human consumption, or for animal feeding. In the case of the lima bean, it is not marketed. In the case of the peppers, western region is characterized in cultivating local varieties and only in occasions the cachucha types are sold, if there is a surplus; in the east they are marketed more improved varieties of peppers. In the crops where farmers refer sales, the highest proportions for them are observed in the oriental region, especially to the state sector. Any way, the sale to the private sector is an alternative used in both areas, especially for maize.
