Abstract
DrumNet, a project of the NGO Pride Africa, is as an emerging network of rurally
situated farm business support centers delivering agricultural extension, credit, and marketing services to smallholder farmers with the aim of increasing their farm productivity, their access to markets, and the efficiency with which they conduct
business. DrumNet encourages the production of export oriented crops by providing extension services and by linking commercial banks, smallholder farmers, retail providers and exporters through a cashless micro-credit program. Farmers access inputs (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc) at local input providers through an established line of credit
from DrumNet. At harvest time, DrumNet deducts the loan repayment and a 15 percent
service charge from the gross proceeds of every marketing transaction prior to disbursing the net funds back to the farmer. DrumNet then sells the produce to an exporter at a prespecified price.
