Abstract
The report’s Introduction outlines challenges of managing natural resources that cut across sectoral boundaries, where pastoralists and sedentary farmers eke out livelihoods from a poor resource-base; Part 2 describes Causes of conflicts over natural resources. Part 3 describes Case studies starting with an Overview, followed by case studies on Forestry Resources, Wildlife and agropastoral systems, Pasture and water resources in semi-arid lands, and the Role of social capital in minimising natural resource conflicts. Part 4 comprises the Conclusions and lessons learned. This last section also gives examples of best practices and proposes ways of incorporating these into policy.
