Abstract
“Localisation” includes translation and cultural adaptation of user interfaces and software applications, as well as creation and translation of internet content into diverse languages. The book aims to move from generalities, such as ‘African languages’, to specifics, such as stipulating which languages are actually spoken, and where exactly they are spoken. It begins to take into account the particular realities found in each African country. It deals with issues from strategic planning for language localisation and broad business development, down to specific keyboard design adaptable to languages. This volume provides resources to assist individual localisation initiatives.
