Abstract

This report summarizes the presentations and their main ideas discussed during the workshop held at Alakhawayn University from the 14th to the 16th of July 2004 on “e-Government in Morocco: Realities & Perspectives.” The workshop was characterized by the attendance of around 40 participants, including journalists, officers and employees of Fez, El-Hajeb and Ifrane cities, as well as decision makers, academics and practitioners from several countries, such as Canada, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, Uganda, and Italy. The workshop aimed to gather different specialists in order to debate the benefits of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) for development. In addition, the workshop included the formal signature of the convention related to a research project that would develop and assess (from a social perspective) an e-government pilot system for the city of Fez. This project is financed by the IDRC and conducted by a multidisciplinary team of Alakhawayn University.
