Abstract

The study analysis gives priority to understanding opportunities and constraints of urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) producers’ groups. The Project Task Force has elaborated Guidelines specifically oriented to the analysis and strengthening of producers’ organizations working in the UPA sector in ten developing country cities: Phnom Penh and Hyderabad (Asia); Accra, Antananarivo, Dakar, Nairobi, Kinshasa, Harare and Cairo (Africa); and Caracas (Latin America). Urban legislation and Administration are not designed to cater for the needs of most small urban and peri-urban producers. Their precarious status often forces them to use degraded or dangerous sites.
