Abstract
Sustainable Neighbourhoods in Focus-Kampala (SFNKampala) is one of nine projects in IDRC’s Urban Poverty and Environment unit Focus Cities research initiative. SNF-Kampala will seek ways to turn problems such as floods, garbage, and other environmental burdens into development opportunities. It is hoped that electric energy, which has been a headache
for city residents, can be generated from some of the garbage, and that some biodegradable rubbish can be converted into fertilizer. The team will study Kampala’s urban agriculture and garbage ordinances to find a legal framework for the initiatives. The project will last 42 months.
