Abstract
In Kampala, the Ugandan capital, everyday hundreds of people arrive from rural areas, especially the semi-arid Karamoja region. A networking session was held a few days after the Kampala team had attended a training event on how to implement the Millennium Development Goals. Practical step-by-step guidance was given on how to build and implement an urban monitoring system as an integral part of development strategies. If the central government can put up more health centres in rural areas, more schools, better roads, and create job opportunities; people might find it less necessary to flock to the cities.
