Abstract

The report provides a review of presentations at the conference on the role of private military/security companies (PMSCs) in African conflicts, including topics such as: the use of private security providers and services in conflict and post-conflict situations; the impact of PMSCs on Africa’s peace and security efforts; the changing nature of warfare and the rise in demand for PMSC services; the relevance of international humanitarian law to PMSCs involved in African conflicts; the relevance of the Montreux Document to PMSCs involved in African conflicts.
