Abstract
The World Urban Forum (WUF3) gave journalists the opportunity to compare different strategies of urban management and to assess more thoroughly the approach, objectives and strategies of the Urban Poverty and Environment Program (UPEP). The goal of this IDRC program is to reduce the pressures on the environment that exacerbate poverty, by strengthening people's capacity to access basic social services and improve their living conditions. It was with this in mind that IDRC invited journalists on an organized visit to "United We Can", a deposit and sorting centre for recyclable material in Vancouver.
