Abstract
The knowledge being generated by the Tanzania Essential Health Interventions Project (TEHIP) in research and development interventions has demonstrated the benefits of evidence-based planning. This issue includes an article by former IDRC head, Maureen O’Neil regarding her trip to Tanzania, with insights into the TEHIP project. District Health Management Teams (DHMT) can use locally generated information on burden of disease, cost effectiveness, health system capacity, and community preferences to plan, set priorities and allocate health resources. TEHIP investigates the impact on people’s health status and health development resulting from delivery of essential health interventions.
