Abstract
Development Alternatives, an NGO which produced a telecentre social-enterprise known as TARAhaat studied the means and methods for meeting the demand for scale-up of the 10,000 and odd telecentres, to over sixty times that within a span of three years. This report aids in understanding the complexities of information and service-provision in rural areas, especially in India where communities are not ‘typical’ and ‘universal’ in nature. During the course of this research, approximately 180 civil society organizations (CSOs) were partnered towards customization of local and locale-specific demand in services and information products. Annexes reveal project success stories.
