Engaged or entangled? : NGO and the private sector on an agenda to end poverty; summary report of CCIC Learning Circle

Abstract
Participants in the learning circle focused on the question of NGO engagement with corporations in the private sector. Large corporations were a particular concern for several reasons: their power is private, derived from access to capital and not from citizens; and corporate power has been growing as power of states has waned. An agenda to eradicate poverty includes potential, as well as the dangers, strategies, and methods of implementation. All participants agreed that some form of confrontation in advocacy situations is necessary when NGOs, concerned about poverty eradication and social justice, engage with the corporate sector.
