Abstract
The Canadian Council of Area Studies Learned Societies (CCASLS) mandate is to build capacities of member associations; to expand their membership; to promote areas studies and development studies in Canada; and to encourage research and the dissemination of results. Evaluators and the CCASLS Board learned that the Canadian Association of African Studies (CAAS) had voted at its annual meeting to withdraw from CCASLS. This decision had an immediate impact on how CCASLS members viewed its future and that of their own associations. These recent developments are built into the findings, conclusions and recommendations of this evaluation.
