Abstract

During 1981, through the help of the IDRC, FUNDAEC contracted four institutions that were receiving support from the social science division of the IDRC to carry out research related to peasant technology. The four institutions were: GIE in Chile, CPES in Paraguay, Talpur in Péru, and CAAP in Ecuador. This contact led to the creation of an informal network and a collaborative effort to share experiences in the form of an IDRC supported project called Social Aspects of Rural Technology. The initial ideas that led to the creation of this project are important for this document since the future projections discussed later depend partially on the validity of these initial observations which, it is claimed, was well demonstrated during the three years of the project.
