Abstract

The paper investigates the pattern and determinants of poultry waste and shallow well water utilization along with implications on productivity and farmers’ health, which includes malaria infections and reported cases of gastro-intestinal infections. Findings show that more men use poultry waste and shallow well water than women, and that women are better managers. There are no significant differences in malaria infections between farmers and non-farmers in the study area. Poultry waste and shallow well water are badly managed due to lack of skill and risk education, and lack of monitoring and evaluation by relevant government institutions and agencies.
