Abstract
The Community-based Coastal Resource Management (CBCRM) or COSTA program in the Wider Caribbean assists local groups and institutions to undertake interdisciplinary research and development in the Caribbean coastal areas. The program promotes participatory approaches and research on practical means to solve problems linked to the use and management of coastal areas, with projects reflecting the interconnectedness between various groups, and several economic activities: deep-sea, coastal, mainland fishing, tourism, agriculture and ancillary activities such as mining and petroleum. This is a preliminary evaluation at-a-distance of ongoing projects in Caribbean countries; the evaluators are from Canada.
