Abstract
As yet, there is no territorial planning or wastewater treatment in the region. Working with north coast municipalities, academia, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) through research and dialogue, this project aimed to improve the management of the San Juan River watershed. The work builds on past efforts to increase the capacity of local stakeholders to engage with decision makers. The “dialogue table” became an important mechanism to enable setting priorities for research, including territorial planning, analysis of the watershed using geographic information systems, land tenure, water quality, and sanitation.
