Abstract

This research aimed towards transformation of an institutional barley breeding program to a decentralized participatory program. It introduced farmer participation in early selection and testing under farming conditions. The welfare of small resource-poor farmers will be improved by increasing and stabilizing barley and animal production in rainfed areas. Barley researchers, including farmers, responded to a survey questionnaire regarding demographic data, educational level, years of experience, type of work, modes of cooperation and questions related to managerial constraints. Field trials were held at the research station at Ghwer in November, 2000.
