Abstract
IDRC’s Information and Communication for Development (ICT4D) branch focuses on open access to knowledge and includes issues related to intellectual property and development. Other programs such as Environment and Natural Resources Management and the Innovation, Policy and Science program also require intellectual property rights vis-a-vis genetic and biological resources, as well as traditional knowledge. The report reviews issues of intellectual property and development that relate specifically to ICTs identified as a part of ICT4D’s niche, followed by some issues not currently part of the ICT4D niche such as are found in competition policy.
