Report of IDRC Implementation Strategy Workshop
Abstract
The report provides an outline of successes and challenges in implementation of a community-based natural resources management (CBNRM) project in Cambodia. Villagers often did not understand that farmers were leaders of the project. Successes were due to cooperation between the department of agriculture, forestry and fishery (DAFF) and the farmers. The failures were caused by unclear ownership, where villagers did not realize that the project was farmer based, farmer driven and community owned. Other challenges were in the form of increased workloads of farmers, and interventions that required intensive labor from the local people, and technical capacity which they lacked.
