Abstract

This show explores the impact of free basic water and prepaid meters on the health of poor communities. Community members discuss the frustration of having only small amounts of water per household and researchers discuss their findings on the impact of prepaid meters on handwashing activity (handwashing is shown to have numerous positive health impacts). Officials from the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry also discuss the work they have been doing to promote handwashing activity in poor communities.
