Abstract
As poverty situations and incidence are not homogeneous, poverty estimates at subnational levels help in devising policy measures. Special attention is needed for areas where the incidence of poverty is high. Considering the importance of poverty measures at the subnational level, Micro Impacts of Macroeconomic and Adjustment Policies (MIMAP)-Bangladesh in collaboration with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) conducted a large-scale poverty survey in 1999. The incidence of poverty by socio-economic indicators such as literacy, level of education, land ownership, and major occupations are presented in the study. Demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population are discussed.
