Abstract
The community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) program works with the local men and women most directly involved with natural resource management. Most people in Asia remain dependent on a productive natural resource base for their livelihoods. However, a widespread process of privatization of natural resources such as forests and coastal areas, where resources were once collectively managed, is underway. CBNRM addresses the interactions among factors that influence natural resource access, use and management patterns, with the participation and leadership of local people.
