Abstract:
This policy synthesis report asserts that results of efforts to achieve food security remain unsatisfactory. The poor face growing scarcities and rising prices. Even in countries with adequate domestic production, access to food is a problem. Malnutrition further aggravates the food insecurity situation. In Asia, food security remains a primary responsibility of the state. The study examines the extent to which different countries in Asia have been able to fulfill this responsibility, the nature of the efforts and their results, and some promising initiatives to reach the millennium goals.
