Abstract

The book is a current (2006) survey of the methods used to analyze poverty and equity. Part I covers conceptual, methodological and empirical issues that arise in assessments of well-being and poverty. Part II presents a number of measures on poverty, inequality, social welfare, and vertical and horizontal equity. Part III considers some methods to determine what policy type dominates another in terms of generally-defined ethical criteria. Part IV develops impacts of targeting, price changes, growth and fiscal policy. Part V introduces statistical techniques related to depiction of distribution of living standards and introduces DAD software applications.
