Abstract:
Where market liberalisation has increased consumer choice, it has also created opportunities for unscrupulous businesses to flood African markets with substandard products to maximise their profits. This Consumers International policy brief advocates for a comprehensive and integrated package of trade reforms, that address particular development needs of African consumers, producers and governments. Through a concerted effort to agree on, and implement a comprehensive package of commitments for Africa that integrate trade, development assistance and debt relief, G8 members have the opportunity to make poverty history. At Gleneagles (Scotland, 2005) talk needs to turn into action.
