Abstract
The paper reviews details of partnerships, policies and governance processes and how they relate to sustainable forest management (SFM), including conservation and habitat preservation. Developing tools to help partners achieve forest certification is currently underway. With 40 sites worldwide (2005), and many more in development, the IMFN constitutes an integrated global community of practice. With more than 900 partner organizations and collaborators, IMFN can now consider linking sites for long-term research on issues of shared policy relevance, from participatory processes to climate change, or linking sites and countries with similar forest types or shared trans-boundary migratory species.
