Abstract

The article reviews the impact of Tanzania Essential Health Interventions Project (TEHIP), a joint initiative between the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Tanzania Ministry of Health. TEHIP develops simple tools and strategies to build the capacities of local health authorities to plan and use resources more strategically; it supports research to evaluate impacts; and provides untied “basket” funds available for districts to implement their plans. An automated tool translates complex information into easy-to-read graphs and charts to produce an intervention priority profile from which to calculate budgetary expenses based on evidence.
