Abstract

The study helped generate options for policy, management and action, and in empowering people and organizations involved in the research by: contributing to knowledge of socio-economics and impact of urban agriculture on food and livelihood security; contributing to institutional innovations likely to enhance the performance of urban agriculture; and helping identify factors that account for variation in food and livelihood security in Harare. Policy directions and guidelines for sustainable utilisation of open spaces for urban agriculture should be very clear and readily available given that 80 percent of urban agriculture takes place there.
