Abstract
The importance of understanding how new knowledge can influence policy was stressed at the conference, “Making the Most of Research.” Some case studies reveal situations whereby researchers are able to move to positions in policy development or political decision-making, demonstrating that research has a role in creating a broad context for effective policy. A panel discussion focused on research that works, illustrated by some successful endeavours, and raising further questions for more effective development strategies.
