Item Open Access Academic contributions to the development of evidence and policy systems : an EPPI Centre collective autoethnography(Springer Nature, 2023-10-25) Oliver, Sandy; Dickson, Kelly; Bangpan, MukdarutThe EPPI Centre, alongside other small research units, collaborated with national and international organisations at the research-policy interface to incubate, spread and embed new ways of working with evidence and policy. Sustainable change arising from research-policy interactions was less about uptake and embedding of innovations, but more about co-developing and tailoring innovations with organisations to suit their missions and structures for creating new knowledge or using knowledge for decisions. Both spreading and embedding innovation relied on mutual learning that both accommodated and challenged established assumptions and values of collaborating organisations as they adapted to closer ways of working. The incubation, spread and embedding of innovations have been iterative, with new ways of working inspiring further innovation as they spread and embedded. Institutionalising evidence for policy required change in both institutions generating evidence and institutions developing policy.Item Open Access Access to adolescent sexual and reproductive health services in Ghana : a qualitative study(2023) Bradley, Susan; Fenny, Ama; Aziato, Lydia; Parmar, Divya; Ataguba, John; Achala, Daniel Malik; Njeri, Grace; Adote, ElizabethItem Open Access Action sur la taxation des produits du tabac en Afrique de l’Ouest : des solutions fiscales pour une reduction optimale du tabagisme en Afrique de l’Ouest - evaluation des coûts des maladies liees au tabac au Senegal(2023) Diagne, Abdoulaye; Mane, Papa Yona Boubacar; Fall, Founty Alassane; Amavi, KodjoviItem Metadata only Action to empower adolescent mothers in Burkina Faso and Malawi : the PROMOTE project pilot randomized controlled trial(2024-03) African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) ; University of Malawi, Centre for Social Research; Institut Supérieur des Sciences de la Population (ISSP)Item Open Access Added value of multiple IMCHA research projects on maternal, newborn and child health policy and practice in Nigeria(2022-02) Johnson, Ermel; Sombié, IssiakaThe Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa (IMCHA) initiative was designed to generate findings that could influence policies and practices at national and subnational levels. This case study documents the added value of IMCHA projects on maternal, newborn and child health policy and practice in Nigeria. Three research teams implemented five research projects representative of different country contexts, allowing analysis of different facets of MNCH problems including barriers to service utilisation and perinatal depression, as well as impacts of the projects. Future research funding could build on the IMCHA model to ensure political involvement and ownership at national level.Item Open Access Addressing gender disparities : policy recommendations for mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on women and girls in Edo and Delta states, Nigeria(Centre for Population and Environmental Development (CPED), 2024) Aitokhuehi, Osagie; Onojeta, Francis; Imongan, Ernest; Iyamba, Iroroturi; Jones, AbrikuItem Open Access Addressing teen pregnancy and early marriage in the Gambia(2023-04-17) Lowe, MatIn The Gambia, early marriage has declined significantly over the last two decades but still remains a common practice. The reasons for this decline include the introduction of the law banning child marriage in 2016 and the increasing enrolment of girls in school. To further contribute to this decline, a five-year project titled ‘Addressing Teen Pregnancy and Early Marriage in The Gambia’ was implemented by the Society for the Study of Women’s Health, in partnership with the Agency for Development of Women and Children. This report describes the research problem, objectives, methodology, activities, outputs, and outcomes from the project.Item Open Access L'adolescence au Niger : contours et déterminants majeurs(2022-05) Hamidou, Issaka Maga; Allagbada, Didier; Sandi, Goza Nana Aicha; Boureima, DiadiéItem Open Access Adolescent mental health and the intersection between adolescent mental health and sexual and reproductive health : a neglected dimension of adolescent primary health care in Ghana(2024) Wallace, Lauren J.; Darko, Natasha; Agblevor, Emelia; Prempeh, Priscilla; Amenah, Michel AdurayiItem Open Access Adolescente : enquête sur les perceptions sociales des violences sexistes et de la santé sexuelle et reproductive de 1332 adolescentes Sénégalaises(2022-10) Universite Gaston Berger; Laboratoire D’analyse Des Societes Et Pouvoir – Afrique / Diaspora; Global Affairs CanadaItem Open Access Advancing scaling science in health and social care : a scoping review and appraisal of scaling frameworks(BMC, 2024-11-27) Kothari, Anita; Graham, Ian D.; Dougherty, Madeline; Corôa, Roberta de Carvalho; Mochcovitch, Diogo G. V.Scaling is typically discussed as a way to amplify or expand a health innovation. However, there is limited knowledge about the specific techniques that can enhance access to or improve the quality of innovations. We sought to identify, compare, and contrast scaling frameworks to advance the science and practice of scaling. Starting from an umbrella review, we identified relevant studies and extracted data about the characteristics of the articles, attributes of framework development, attributes of framework components, transferability, and the framework’s underlying ethical lens. Grey literature was included through expert consultation. Data were summarized using frequencies and qualitative description. Much may be learned through further support for, and development of, scaling frameworks by primary authors affiliated with the Global South. Important aspects of framework development were identified, especially understanding the nuances of diverse stakeholder involvement in development.Item Metadata only AI for Health : APHRC partners establish COVID-19 data hub(2023-06-23) APHRCThis video discusses how APHRC and its partners created a data hub to collect Covid-19 related data.Item Open Access AI-based epidemic and pandemic early warning systems : a systematic scoping review(Sage, 2024) El Morr, El Christo ; Ozdemir, Deniz; Asdaah, Yasmeen; Saab, Antoine; El-Lahib, Yahya; Sokhn, Elie SalemTimely detection of disease outbreaks is critical in public health. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can identify patterns in data that signal the onset of epidemics and pandemics. This scoping review examines the effectiveness of AI in epidemic and pandemic early warning systems (EWS). A systematic scoping review was conducted. The review found that AI-based EWS have been effectively implemented in various contexts, using a range of algorithms. Key challenges identified include data quality, model explainability, bias, data volume, velocity, variety, availability, and granularity. Strategies for mitigating AI bias and improving system adaptability were also discussed.Item Metadata only AI4PEP Indonesia launched global health security talks with strong attendance(2024-07-31) AI4PEPItem Metadata only Item Metadata only Air pollution in South Africa : affordable new devices use AI to monitor hotspots in real time(2024-08-14) Mellado, Bruce
