Item Open Access Diagnóstico sobre género e inclusión social en centros educativos : proyecto «Mejora de la alfabetización infantil mediante el apoyo de redes comunitarias en Honduras»(2022-06) Foro Social de la Deuda Externa y Desarrollo de Honduras (FOSDEH)Item Open Access Improving child literacy through support from community networks : Unlock Literacy Learning Networks (ULLN) research report from Ghana(2022-12) FOSDEH; Cobbinah, JosephThis report gives account of the major research findings on the Unlocking Literacy (UL) programme which was implemented in primary schools and reading camps (RCs) in some selected communities. The project was aimed at ensuring that early grade teachers use child-centred pedagogies that will enhance children's literacy learning. The findings will serve as a guiding tool for teachers, education officials, parents, curriculum experts, and other education stakeholders including World Vision International (WVI) and other NGOs that are also into literacy development.Item Open Access Improving literacy for children through the support of community networks (ULLN) : executive summary(2022-11) Foro Social de la Deuda Externa y Desarrollo de Honduras (FOSDEH)The main objective of the research is to explore how community actors, including teachers, directors and officials of the Ministry of Education, parents and caregivers, and others, can work in partnership to implement the community-based literacy activities of the Unlock Literacy (UL) model. The model enables children, especially the most vulnerable girls and boys, in Honduras to participate in and benefit from literacy strengthening activities, such as reading camps.Item Open Access Improving literacy for children through the support of community networks in Ghana, Honduras, and Nicaragua : a cross-country comparison of key learnings related to adaptation and scaling for impact of World Vision’s Unlock Literacy reading camps(2023-02-28) Janigan, Kara; University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in EducationThis report presents the Research Lead’s cross-county analysis of research findings from the qualitative research studies of World Vision’s Unlock Literacy community-based, play-based reading camps for early school-age children (grades 1-3) conducted in Honduras, Nicaragua, and Ghana as part of the Improving Literacy for Children through the Support of Community Networks project from April 2020 to February 2023. The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and Global Partnership for Education (GPE) are funding this Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) project through a global grant. These grants aim to generate knowledge and evidence to support the adaptation of proven innovations to address key education priorities in GPE partner countries and to mobilize research and knowledge to support the scaling of these proven innovations.Item Open Access Improving literacy of children through support from community networks (also known as Unlock Literacy Learning Networks - ULLN)(2023-04-28) World Vision Canada; FOSDEHThe research project, Improving Literacy for Children Through the Support of Community Networks, explored how community-based actors (teachers, community leaders, volunteers, parents, administrators, etc.) work together, adapt, and interact with the formal education sector to implement and support community literacy activities (including reading camps) to improve girls’ and boys’ reading fluency within distinct local learning systems/ contexts in Ghana, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The research provides evidence on factors that enable and hinder collaborative stakeholder networks that aim to advance quality, sustainable, scalable, and effective gender-responsive and inclusive education programming for early-grade students (grades 1-3) to improve children’s literacy levels within vulnerable populations.Item Open Access Improving literacy of children through support of community networks : consolidated report of the ULLN project results - Nicaragua 2021-2022(2022-11) Foro Social de la Deuda Externa y Desarrollo de Honduras (FOSDEH)Below, we present the results of the research study, starting with an overview of each of the ten sampled communities. The document elaborates on the multiple factors involved in facilitating or limiting the functioning of the Reading Clubs, extracted from the common elements identified in the 10 case studies. Section six presents some reflections on the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) dimension, pointing out the role that women and girls play in the UL model, as well as the impact it has on the most vulnerable groups of children. Next, the main changes perceived by the participants as a result of the implementation of the UL model and the Reading Clubs are described. Finally, the report ends with some conclusions that attempt to take into account the results and the reflections raised throughout the document.Item Open Access Improving literacy of children through support of community networks : consolidated report on the results of the ULLN project Honduras - Honduras 2021-2022(2022-11) FOSDEH; Alberto Cruz, KevinTo respond to the problem of childhood illiteracy, during the last decade World Vision has implemented the Unlock Literacy (UL) project, which complements and supports the efforts of the Ministries of Education of the countries where it is implemented, to improve the learning processes in reading and writing of all children, including the most vulnerable.
