The project included four activity areas: 1) In-depth case studies and analysis, 2) Open telecom data, policy and regulation, 3) Awareness raising and movement building, and 4) Support for existing and emerging initiatives. This detailed report covers multiple project activities regarding the potential of community networks. Due to limitations in national operator broadband models of connectivity, there is increasing interest in exploring alternative strategies for reaching the 4 billion who are unconnected.Item Open Access Making a feminist internet research network : final technical report(2022-10) Hussen, Tigist Shewarega; Aavriti, Namita; Raghavan, SrinidhiAs a network, the Feminist Internet Research Network (FIRN) focuses on facilitation and coordination of projects to produce quality research output that pay attention to contextual specificities and complex realities. We have put in place many practices, policies, and spaces to help our partners produce research findings that are representative of the geopolitical context of the communities they belong to and conduct research within. It indicates common trends, issues and areas for further research, focusing on information and communications technologies (ICT), and the Internet in particular. This publication is the final output of the research project. For the Women’s Rights Programme in the Association for Progressive Communication (APC WRP), the study provides opportunities to assess the broader field and achievements in terms of policy reform, changing the discourse, and building capacity. Mapping of knowledge production in the field of gender and digital technology is part of the IDRC Networked Economies programme.
